Preauthorization updates
We are pleased to announce some exciting new developments in EMI Health's preauthorization process.
Online procedure code look-up
Providers may now look up procedure codes on our website to see whether preauthorization or medical necessity review is required. Preauthorization requests should still be initiated by calling EMI Health*; however, this convenient function will allow you to plan ahead before placing that call.
*Aetna providers located outside of Utah use the online certification portal.
American Health
EMI Health has begun working with American Health for medical review and care management services, including the medical necessity portion of preauthorization requests. American Health is a nationally-recognized, URAC-accredited medical management company that serves more than 2.3 million lives across all 50 states. The transition will take place between 09/01/21 and 01/01/22. During that period, you may receive communications from Magellan Rx Management or American Health. Of course, Cigna will continue to conduct utilization management for Cigna providers outside of Utah.
