EDI claims submission requirement

EMI Health is pleased to offer the convenience, savings, and security of electronic claims submission. Claims submitted through EDI have a faster processing time than paper claims, and there is reduced chance of human error.

Participating providers are required to submit claims, other than corrected claims or those that include attachments, through EDI.

Using a clearinghouse

EMI Health uses the Utah Health Information Network (UHIN) as our clearinghouse. UHIN transmits standard electronic data transactions with all major clearinghouses through a secure, private gateway. If you are using a clearinghouse, the following information may be useful when submitting EDI claims to EMI Health:

Direct through UHIN

You also have the option to submit EDI claims directly through UHIN. If you are not yet set up to submit claims through UHIN, you can learn more here: https://uhin.org/myuhin-billing-software-emi-health/

Claims with attachments

Claims that include attachments may still be sent to EMI Health on standard paper claim forms, either through the postal service or through EMI Health's secure online electronic attachments portal. When using the portal, be sure to upload the claim form, along with the attachments. Each claim must be submitted individually. This feature is not for batched claims. You may also submit the claim through EDI and then upload the attachments through the portal. Be sure to complete all fields on the electronic form, so that we can match the attachments to the appropriate claim.

Corrected claims

At this time, we are unable to accept corrected dental claims through EDI. Corrected claims must be sent on standard ADA paper claim forms, either through the postal service or through EMI Health's secure online electronic attachments portal. When using the portal, each claim must be submitted individually. This feature is not for batched claims. Be sure to put CORRECTED CLAIM with the original claim number (if you have it) in Box 35 of the ADA claim form.

Important reminder

We are committed to providing our members with accurate network information and processing your claims as quickly and accurately as possible. To help with that effort, please notify EMI Health as soon as possible of upcoming address or phone number changes, Tax Identification Number (TIN) additions or changes, or changes in your availability to accept new patients. If you haven't checked your listing on our provider directory recently, visit https://emihealth.com or use the EMI Health mobile app to confirm that your information is correct.
